The Relevance of Research: Do we intervene to understand?

We learnt to observe and explain, to collect evidence, to generalize and to build theory. But are we also expected to respond to social, economic, or ecological needs for change? Does the request for intervening, decision making, giving advice, and problem solving challenge our role as researchers, our mode of inquiry and the kind of knowledge we generate?

For researchers, solving real world problems does not simply mean to apply scientific findings to practical problems, but means to intervene into a world we inquire into. Is intervening a form of research? Is intervening a form of understanding?

If you have ever wondered about such questions, why not join our highly interactive online event targeted for all those interested in extending their range of solutions for wicked problems. This online event seeks to bring together members from various disciplines and shall provide a platform to discuss and learn about possibilities of research and education at the interface between design and science. Furthermore, we would like to encourage you to share and exchange experiences and examples from your discipline. We would like to discuss Design as Inquiry as an approach to guide through the process of transforming situations as a means to generate knowledge.

Therefore, we invite practitioners, teachers, researchers and students from all disciplines who are interested in and aim at contributing to approaches in research and education which face the aforementioned issues.
